November 4, 2009

In what was a penalty fest weekend The New England Stars were able to come away with 4 points from the NJ Kings this past weekend in Dracut and have climbed into second place, sitting 3 points back of the league leading Cape Cob Cubs.

Saturday Night saw the Stars Jump out an 1-0 lead on a goal by Tim Parker with an assist going to Brad Cunningham. However, just a few minutes later the Kings would score 2 goals and eventually would take a 3-1 lead by the end of the first period. The Stars would not quit and it would be Jeff Hall scoring his first goal of the year that would bring the Stars back within one. The team would continue to trade goals and the Stars would eventually squeeze out a 7-6 win.

Sean Duncan Scored 2 goals angainst the Kings on Sunday

On Sunday The Stars would continue to get strong special teams play from there players, with help form the Kings (37 Penalties), as they would score 4 power play goals, and would one-up the Kings with a score of 4-3. “It was a very frustrating game.” said head Coach Dan Fontas. “It was very tough to sustain any momentum with all the delays and stoppages. However, I am very pleased with our discipline. Our kids did a very good job of not getting roped in to our opponents style of play. If we can continue to get stronger with our mental game we will continue to to find success.”
